In this week's lecture we covered multiple PC tasks such as file handling, word precessing, spreadsheets, prdesentations, internet access, e-mails and viewing PDF's as well as the applications relevant for each task.
A few other applications were covered for tasks such as audio, video and viewing and editing graphic files.
In addition the lecture discussed what skills we needed to acquire for this course and for what reason. For example being able to generate word and power point presentations in order to enhance the presentation of assessments on the future.
Workshop
Justine put up a PDF in which instructed us how to format some text in APA standard.
We used Microsoft Word to format the selection of text. For example line spacing, document
mapping and sorting text. This task was good because it gave me an idea of how formating needs to be done in university.
Part of our task was to also create an Excel table that represented our weekly timeline and then create a chart of the timeline. I found this task quite simple because I have used this application many times before.
Readings
Using MS Word for APA Tasks
The first reading was a tutorial on formating Microsoft Word documents. We used for reference to complete the task regarding Word. This included all the APA standards, including line spacing, headings, margins etc. I found this helpful as I can use this reading in the future for other assessments.
Graphic File Formats
The second reading describes the different formats of images and which formats are suited to
certain applications eg. Bitmap images for wallpapers, Tiff format for professional printing.
I found this site useful as it made me understand why certain formats don't work in certain applications or why some formats aren't as clear as others. For Example JPEG pictures aren't as defined as BMP pictures.
